Stefan Schäfer (*1963): Histoires - Morceaux de Salon pour contrebasse et piano

Stefan Schäfer is the principal bass player of the Hamburg State Orchestra and a freelance composer. His works, which are wide-ranging in genre and instrumentation, are popular and frequently performed in concert halls such as New York´s Carnegie Hall, Vienna´s Konzerthaus and Berlin´s Philharmonie.
Today Schäfers oeuvre includes more than hundred compositions. He can be considered one of the most productive composing bass players of our time, following in a line after Giovanni Bottesini and Domenico Dragonetti.
In England and the USA Schäfer was awarded with composition prizes. His works for double bass often are played on international competitions.
Furthermore he composed new music for tuition, workshops and competitions. „Histoires“ is a cycle written in the spirit of French 19th-century salon music, with musical signatures and influences of today.
